The Foundation Honours the Bearers of Light
April 14, 2016
On Tuesday, 19 April at 18:00, the Latvian Librarians’ Society and the National Library of Latvia’s Support Society will present awards to Latvia’s best librarians in the Castle of Light’s Ziedonis’ Hall. The ABLV Charitable Foundation congratulates and supports these “Bearers of Light” for their contribution to encouraging public development and education.
During the awards ceremony, the winners of the awards for “2015 Librarian of the Year” and “Parish Librarian – Bearer of Light” will be announced and congratulated. The event will take place under the auspices of the biggest event of the librarians’ year – the Latvian Library Festival. Both competitions dedicated to the recognition of librarians’ work not only highlight the dedication, contribution and excellence of librarians and the importance of the work they do, but bring this to the attention to Latvian society as a whole, making it a source of pride nationwide.
In this year’s “Parish Librarian – Bearer of Light” competition organised by the National Library of Latvia’s Support Society, the award will be awarded to four parish librarians from Kurzeme, Latgale, Vidzeme and Zemgale. This is the ninth year in which the society has organised the competition in order to express the gratitude of readers to the most active, professional and creative parish librarians for their contribution to the development of their library and parish. As an annual collaboration partner of the National Library of Latvia’s Support Society, which puts a gift on the shelves of Latvia’s public libraries every year in the form of several hundred books, the Foundation will congratulate the “Bearers of Light” with a specially prepared present.
The awards ceremony will be musically enriched by the classical works of Latvian composers performed by Ventis Zilberts, Tatjana Ostrovska, Egīls Šēfers, Toms Ostrovskis and Trio NYX.
Producing the awards ceremony to ensure that it is a special and unforgettable event will be: Guna Bīriņa, Liene Pavlovska, Guntis Lēmanis, Armands Briģis, Viktors Keino and the "VPT Group". Master of Ceremonies: Ojārs Rubenis.
